TMJ Disorder

TMJ Disorder is a serious condition that can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort in the jaw. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is located in the lower jaw and is responsible for most of the jaw’s functions. TMJ Disorder is fairly simple to self-diagnose, as the symptoms are highly noticeable.

If you believe you may have TMJ Disorder, ask yourself these questions:

  • Have you ever sustained a head/jaw injury?
  • Does your jaw pain worsen if you clinch your teeth?
  • Do you have frequent head and/or neck aches?
  • Does your jaw click/pop when you speak or eat?
  • Do you grind your teeth?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, call our office to schedule an examination with Dr. McDonald. Should you have TMJ Disorder, we will establish a treatment plan to address the problem. In most cases surgery is not required, but if it is you can rest assured that you are in very capable and experienced hands.
